Hello all! As you might have guessed from my occasional updates, I am not dead, I've just been in classes (which is the same thing as far as my social life is concerned).  I came back to the States in December and then went back to Colorado for my second semester, which was easily the toughest semester of my life, and now I'm home for the summer.  Art-wise I have a lot of projects in mind, just been lacking the motivation lately, but hopefully that won't last long. :)

Also, since it's summer I have time to read for fun again! Only problem is I'm running out of new books and my last few forays to the bookstore have only yielded so-so results. So if there are any books that you've really enjoyed lately please tell me about them, because I want something new. I prefer character-driven historical fiction or fantasy (usually high fantasy, but I'm open to urban or supernatural as well). I'm really starting to get into steampunk as well, I've already read Gail Carriger and Cherie Priest and loved them both, so if you know of any other authors in that genre please share. :)

First I have to say hello to all my new watchers, I used to go around thanking everyone on their pages but I've been kinda lax on that lately.^^; So, to any new watchers I haven't thanked yet- THANK YOU! I really appreciate it! :D

As the title suggests, I am now in Bournemouth, England, have been for about 3 weeks now. Classes just started this week (they really beat the hell out of orientation days here- 2 weeks of it!), and though I've only just started I'm really enjoying the course, I think I'm going to get a lot out of it.
I've done a little sight-seeing as well, mostly local places since I haven't had enough time to go further abroad yet. I won't deny that I squealed when I saw a castle for the first time.:XD:
I've been keeping up an almost daily report on my LJ, for anyone who's interested: zaera.livejournal.com/

I have a lot of sketches that I wanna show you guys, but no scanner, so they'll have to wait until I'm back in the states. However, I did bring my tablet with me, so I've been doing a little digital painting in my downtime, hopefully I'll have something to show for it fairly soon!:)

All systems go!

Hello all!

First off I'd like to mention how awkward it is talking to strangers on the phone. I always end up starting sentences then halfway through realize I don't how I'm going to finish them and then I trail off lamely and I'm sure I sound really stupid, and that's when I'm not already tripping all over my tongue. I'm hoping my friendly demeanor makes up for my lack of articulate speech.:XD: (Can you tell I just did this?)

Now for the real point of this journal:
I think I mentioned a few times that I was trying to go to Bournemouth, England for a semester abroad, and about two weeks ago I finally found out that it's definitely happening! I got plane tickets and a place to live and everything's all set! I'm very excited. :boogie: I will have internet access, so you'll probably still see me around on here. I'm also *attempting* a blog over on LJ zaera.livejournal.com/ I'm pretty sure it's set to public so even if you don't have one you can read mine. If you're interested in how my trip is going that would be the place to look. :)

On a parting note, I adore this man: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyFT4L…

Hello all, I come to you with an arty question:

My bff's parents want me to paint a mural in their basement, and I have told them that I would. Problem is that I, never having painted a mural before, don't know what kind of materials I should use. A friend and a bit of Google research have told me that acrylic paints are fine for this sort of project, but I will also have to seal it with some sort of varnish- none of them were very helpful in telling me exactly what kind of varnish. I've never bought or used any type of it before, so I don't know what I'm looking for. I don't even know if I'm looking for something in a spray-can or a jar, I'm quite clueless.:XD:

The area to be painted is flat drywall. It's pretty humid where I live, although this basement is usually well air-conditioned, however, it has been known to flood a few times in the past (fingers crossed that it won't happen again, but with the amount of rain we get sometimes it's possible). I want to seal the painting with something than can hold up to all this so these people get their money's worth as far as a long-lasting piece of art. Preferably not something that will make the piece shiny, because they want it to blend into the matte wall paint that's already there. Suggestions, anyone?

Any other mural-painting tips would be much appreciated too! :D

Hello all! Yes, I am still alive.
Classes ended a few weeks ago, and I spent a nice week or so marathoning period romances and all three seasons of Avatar with Zenuva before returning to Indiana this past weekend. Since then I've been unpacking and traveling all over town collecting job applications while wearing my best puppy dog face in the hopes that someone will take pity and hire me, because I really need a job this summer (I am open for commissions, btw :D). Had a busy past few weeks with moving out of my apartment and coming back home, so not a whole lot going on in the art department lately, though once I get settled back in here I'm sure this slump will end.

My possible semester in England this fall is still not 100% decided, but one of the reps from Bournemouth visited RMCAD a while back and spoke with me, and both sides seem pretty confident that it will work out. She seemed impressed with my portfolio, and it seems to me now that the hold up isn't whether I'm good enough for the school or not, but that the schools have to work out an agreement between themselves (something that RMCAD is not especially experienced with, since, to my knowledge, only one other RMCAD student has ever done a semester abroad). But, everyone seems pretty sure they'll work it out, so I just get to play the waiting game while they hash out the details.

Other than that, not too much going on with me, how's everyone else doing?

(Oh, also, I hate this new layout. I usually don't like it when websites change it up because I'm a big fan of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy, but I get used to them eventually. This one, however, is legitimately bad. It's clunky and I don't like having to take an extra step to get to my messages, plus my computer does not get along with some of it. The ads on the top bar are squished down so they cover the top part of the deviations I'm trying to look at. Oh yeah, great way to showcase the art. Thanks guys. :sarcasticclap: )
