Julia- 1870s Ball Gown by Terrizae Julia- 1870s Ball Gown by Terrizae
Because every once in a while I feel the need to draw something pretty and ruffly. And inked! (well, if it's all done on the computer is it technically still 'inked'?)
Anyway, yeah, began as a sketch that I liked enough to clean up and color. Julia in her ball gown, ca. 1873.

Textures are scanned scrapbook paper, floral design came from 408 Victorian Ornamental Designs by Dover Publications, and Julia is of course mine. :)

Very lovely!

You know, Gone with the Wind nut that I am, I can't help but think that this is what Scarlett's dress for Ashley's birthday party, as described in the book, looked like. (The one Rhett forced her to wear after she and Ashley had been caught in the lumber office--the one that was turned into the red velvet dress for the movie.) The book described it as being jade green, with roses on the bustle. Is that what inspired this?

Thank you!

Unfortunately I still haven't gotten around to reading Gone With the Wind, I've only seen the film, so I think it's safe to say this dress was not inspired by it. Using flowers as decoration was pretty common in the Victorian era, and I felt that these colors were just well-suited for my character. But regardless of the source of inspiration, I'm glad you like it!

Lovely work. The dress is gorgeous and so is her necklace. I also love her little head tilt; it gives her personality past just standing there.
